In every business or network, there are two important perceptions that should match, but can be different, one being, “what we believe we offer as an employer” the other being, “how employees view their experience of working for us”. Every year we look for new grads and interns, carefully considering the two items above and what we can realistically say we offer across our network when every office, manager, service line and experience is a bit different.

We recently received direct feedback that was both heartwarming and humbling – multiple Number One grad employer rankings for the 2026 year. The rankings come after Prosple gathered information from students, and grads and interns who work for the reviewed employers.

Here’s how we performed in the Accounting and Advisory category, by ranking, then grade…

Note that some rankings feature more employers due to new categories and methodologies, and non-mandatory survey questions not being answered by some respondents or not being applicable to some employers. Importantly, the Accounting and Advisory career path rankings cover employers who advertised those roles, not just those specifically in that field.

“We’re thrilled with our results,” says Baker Tilly Staples Rodway chair David Searle. “Equally, we’re mindful of the importance of not being complacent. Workplaces are living, breathing entities and it’s up to all of us as directors, partners, associates and managers to ensure that we provide a good experience for our interns and graduates.

“If we get great rankings in some categories, that is not the end. We are always looking to build and improve on our progress because our people are the lifeblood of our network and we very much appreciate them.”

We’ll be looking for new grads and interns early next year, so for those of you who might be interested in working for us, let’s break down the results, followed by how we fared across Prosple’s wider New Zealand Top 100 Grad Employers rankings.

Best Overall graduate employer (#1 of 40)

Prosple created this grade to give students a comprehensive view of what it's like to work at an organisation, based primarily on feedback from graduate and intern reviews. Here are the categories that led to that grade…

Career progression (#1 of 17) – This covers how satisfied grads and interns were with their promotion and career progression opportunities.

Culture (#1 of 17) – How they rated their employer’s workplace culture.

Management (#1 of 17) – Satisfaction with workplace managers. We were also very pleased to be named second in the full Top 100 for this ranking.

Meaningful work (1# of 17) – This covered grads and interns’ satisfaction with the tasks they were being given to work on.

Recruitment process (#1 of 17) – How they found the overall recruitment process when applying for their role.

Social responsibility (#1 of 17) – Perceptions of their employer's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Training & development (#1 of 17) – How satisfied they were with the formal and informal training and development opportunities.

Work hours (#2 of 13) – Prosple previously asked for work-life balance reviews but has changed this to how many hours a week grads and interns were reporting at their respective workplaces. It was considered a better way to compare data, rather than subjective answers due to work-life balance meaning different things to different people.

Sustainability (#3 of 17) – Covers how grads and interns felt about their employer's commitment to reducing their environmental impact.

Reputation (#5 of 40) – This comes from a separate Prosple survey of more than 2,000 students (covering the employers they’ve heard of and aspire to work for), and job application data from Prosple’s website. We placed fifth behind the Big Four. We’ve always said we offer the Goldilocks experience – we’re a member of the global Top Ten professional services network Baker Tilly International and have our own national network, yet our offices are locally owned. Our grads aren’t a tiny cog in a large wheel, they’re an integral part of a local team.

Diversity & Inclusion (#6 of 17) – This rated employer commitment to diversity and inclusion. In this section, 43.75% of our grads and interns gave us the top ranking of 10 (very committed) on a 1 to 10 scale, while a further 25% gave us an 8 or 9 ranking, however we recognise that every office, manager, team composition, team dynamic and individual is different, therefore experiences can be different. As a network, we care about our people and are always striving to improve.

Highest paying grad employers (#10 of 20) – Prosple has also changed how it calculates pay rankings. Previously it used the maximum salary from advertised ranges, but its rankings are now based on the midpoint of the advertised salary range. As above, the rankings apply to all employers who have recently offered accounting and advisory roles, however we have the third-highest ranking among specialist accounting and advisory employers.

Office environment (#11 of 17) – Grads and interns rated their employer's office, specifically space, location, facilities and dress code. Our Auckland office is our biggest employer of grads and interns, and at the time of these reviews, was still at its old premises, which had become a little dated. The team is now in a new office and feedback thus far has been very good, so we will watch this ranking with interest next year!
