A day in the life of Auckland audit grad Michiyo Hirota

A Day in the Life of Auckland audit and assurance services intermediate Michiyo Hirota.

7.45am: Today, I am booked for a job with a client in Mt Eden. I drive to the site.

8.20am: I arrive, greet the client, and receive a key card to access the room where we will be working for the day. I make a cup of tea in their kitchen and head off to the room.

8.30am:  My first task is to complete a revenue walk-through. I work through the sections and get guidance from our AIC (Auditor in Charge) when needed.

9.30am: Our senior manager is joining us today to review the progress of our work. Another team member is also asking questions and confirming whether the work we are doing is heading in the right direction.

10am: The client sends me an email with the answer to my morning query, so I go back to the workpaper and complete the task.

12pm: Today, we are having bite-sized training. Since most of us are working on different sites, the meeting is usually held online. Directors and senior managers give us training on various topics every fortnight. Today’s topic is Financial Statement Reviews and the Disclosure Checklist.

12:30pm: We head off to the kitchen and have lunch together.

1.30pm: The afternoon starts with a quick online catch-up with an assistant manager regarding another job I am currently working on. We exchange emails then I carry on with other tasks.

3.30pm: I have an engagement team meeting for a project we will be working on next week. We will be heading to the client site for interim auditing, so pre-planning is essential to ensure that our visit runs smoothly and that we get the most out of it.

5pm: We return the key and wrap up for the day. I head home to relax so I can have another refreshing day tomorrow!
