Public notice – fraudulent documents misrepresenting Baker Tilly Staples Rodway

Baker Tilly Staples Rodway has recently become aware of the circulation of fraudulent documents that falsely claim to have been prepared, issued and authorised by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, purportedly for Baliex Limited.
These documents constitute a false representation of Baker Tilly Staples Rodway and include the unauthorised use of our name, branding and letterhead, the name of one of our partners, a falsified signature purporting to be that of one of our partners, and purported audit and assurance reports.
No association between Baker Tilly Staples Rodway and Baliex audit reports
The documents in question were not prepared, reviewed, signed, issued or authorised by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, any Baker Tilly Staples Rodway New Zealand entity, or any Baker Tilly Staples Rodway member firm internationally.
In particular, we wish to make it clear that:
- Neither Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, nor any Baker Tilly Staples Rodway New Zealand entity, nor any Baker Tilly member firm internationally has ever acted as auditor of Baliex Limited or any other entity identified in the false documents currently circulating.
- Neither Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, nor any Baker Tilly Staples Rodway New Zealand entity, nor any Baker Tilly member firm internationally has ever provided audit, assurance or other professional services to Baliex Limited or any other entity identified in the false documents currently circulating.
- No audit report, assurance report, blockchain verification report or any other professional report contained within those documents was prepared, signed, issued or authorised by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, any Baker Tilly Staples Rodway New Zealand entity or any Baker Tilly member firm internationally.
Accordingly, any document purporting to have been prepared or issued by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway in connection with Baliex Limited or any other entity identified in those documents is false, fraudulent, not genuine and should not be relied upon.
We have notified the relevant New Zealand regulatory authorities and are supporting their enquiries.
Baliex Response
On 5 August 2026 and again on 10 August 2026, Baliex Limited, via support@baliex.com, contacted Baker Tilly Staples Rodway regarding this public notice:
Baliex Limited has advised Baker Tilly Staples Rodway that it did not create, authorise or distribute the documents in question and that it is conducting its own investigation into their origin and distribution.
Baker Tilly Staples Rodway has provided information concerning this matter to the relevant New Zealand regulatory authorities.
This update records Baliex Limited's stated position. Baker Tilly Staples Rodway has not independently verified that position. Our position regarding the authenticity of the documents purporting to have been prepared or issued by Baker Tilly Staples Rodway remains unchanged.
