Spencer Smith

Spencer has been a Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Director since 2011.

He has been providing specialist tax advice since 1988, and has been a partner in two Big-4 accounting firms. He also had a brief stint as a litigation lawyer. When he was based in Wellington, Spencer was extensively involved with advising in the petroleum and mineral mining sectors. He has also worked with IRD Policy officials on various matters over the years.

Since moving to Christchurch in 2006, Spencer has enjoyed a much greater involvement with privately owned businesses, land-based projects and succession planning. His technical skills and experience allow him to offer creative solutions coupled with practical implementation advice. He has also enjoyed being involved on a voluntary basis on the boards of a number of organisations, which has given him extensive experience with a range of governance issues.
